Most board owners have these problems. Most just have better anti-spam measures in place as well as other methods in place. Spam for example is posted on phpBB.com but since the moderation queue is set up for new users, regular users never see it. In addition, they have a good anti-spam question and extension that keep a good number of them from registering in the first place. There's a reason why phpBB has information pertaining to spam and blocking it. It's because it's a common occurrence.
